Lucy & Daniel | Engagement at Lands End and Sutro Baths

Lucy and Daniel embracing at sunset on a Sutro Baths cliff, San Francisco engagement photographer

From the cypress shadows of Lands End to the ruined edges of Sutro Baths, a San Francisco afternoon that found its light just as the sun began to set.

Lucy and Daniel chose two of the most photographed places in San Francisco, and somehow made them feel private. We started under the cypress canopy at Lands End. The path holds its light differently in the late afternoon, with the trees throwing long quiet shadows. By the time we reached Sutro Baths, the marine layer had broken open, and the Pacific was catching the kind of soft gold that never lasts long enough.

The walk from Lands End to Sutro Baths is short on foot, but the landscape changes completely. The cypress canopy gives way to open coast. Ruined pools, salt air, Seal Rocks holding their place offshore. Lucy and Daniel kept walking. The light kept softening.

By the time the arch rock caught the last of the sun, Lucy and Daniel had stopped paying attention to the camera. The best frames usually happen then, when the day has earned a little of itself back.
